A friend and I started mixing chemicals in the darkroom while in 8th grade. Years later, we and our wives started an old-time photography business. It was called Positive Image. It was our first lesson in the dynamics of mixing business with friendship/family. Nothing bad happened, but my wife and I withdrew from the business. We valued the friendship more.
Over time, I've had a variety of pets. Turtles, ducklings, a parakeet, dogs. Never snakes. I'm like Indiana Jones that way. This little lady was "Molly." After our dog-owning days had passed, we'd get an occasional fix by dogsitting her for a friend.
One of the best periods of my life was participating in the expansion of a parish on Illinois farmland. It truly was one of those once-in-a-lifetime experiences. The story is told in my book, The Pivotal Pastor. The project was led by our pastor, Fr. Ron Lewinski, and a world-renown architect, Dirk Lohan. This picture was taken on the eve of the church's dedication.
